At the last Western Wood Preservers Institute meeting there was a presentation by Bryan Schuler from WoodWorks. WOW. This is a great organization. It was started a few years ago to support the use of wood in non-residential buildings. Their website is www.woodworks.org. I was extremely impressed with the program itself, along with the results it is having. As an example, they were able to convert about 200 restaurants of a large, fast food retailer that would have been built in steel, to wood. They have also converted or influenced many large, commercial projects to wood, and have held two wood solutions fairs. I think they are becoming a major influence in our industry, and I applaud their efforts. Wood is such an environmentally friendly product, but I don't think our industry has done a very good job getting the word out. That has all changed now with WoodWorks! Check it out!
