PWP produces its crane mats at its state-of-the-art automated production line located northeast of Houston, TX. Its manufacturing facility is near hardwood raw material supplies and is located on a rail spur and with easy freeway access. PWP now also produces laminated mats, used primarily for use in oil fields, surface decking and where trucks and rubber-tired equipment are utilized.
Wooden crane mats can help to control erosion at job sites, and provide a safer work environment for heavy equipment operators so their equipment doesn’t slip and slide in muddy environments. It is a key goal of environmental managers to protect the delicate topsoil, and our wooden mats do just that.
Hardwood crane mats are used for virtually every step in the construction project when pipelines are being built. If pipe is brought in by barge, mats are used to hold materials steady. Traditionally mats are used to stabilize heavy equipment (such as cranes, hence, “crane mats”). In swampy areas, mats can prevent accidents when there is soil degradation and unstable terrain. Perhaps the most important role for mats is when they are used as pipeline skids and to support individual joints and strings of welded pipe before the strings are lowered into trenches.
Pacific has constructed automated mat lines at its Texas facility that has helped to make it a low cost producer. It is also ideally located to purchase hardwoods (the raw material for the mats) and service customers, and the mat business fits nicely with Pacific’s tie business, as it uses the same raw material from the same mills.
We understand the demanding needs of our pipeline customers and are a reliable, quality supplier. Some highlights are below:
